Spiti literally means 'Middle land' as it is located between India and mystic Tibet. Spiti is well known for its Buddhist culture, rugged villages, cold desert beauty and is home to several monasteries like the Key Monastery, Dhankar Monastery, Kungri Monastery and Tabo Monastery. Spiti attracts many travelers, including streams of Indian motorcyclists, as a kind of miniLadakh without tourist crowds, which is fair enough, since its pristine nature (high-altitude desert )and culture (Tibetan Buddhist) are still intact. Itinerary

Day 1: Shimla to Sarahan

  • Morning: Arrive in Shimla and begin your journey to Narkanda, a scenic hill station.
  • Mid-Morning: After a short break in Narkanda, enjoy a hearty breakfast before continuing your drive toward Sarahan.
  • Afternoon: On the way, drive alongside the picturesque riverside of Rampur Bushar.
  • Evening: Upon reaching Sarahan, visit the historic Bhim-Kali Temple, a revered 800-year-old shrine.
  • Night: Check into your hotel, freshen up, and unwind with fellow travelers around a cozy bonfire. Enjoy a delicious dinner and an overnight stay in Sarahan.

Day 2: Sarahan to Sangla

  • Morning: Wake up early to witness the mesmerizing sunrise, then enjoy a scrumptious breakfast.
  • Mid-Morning: Drive towards Sangla, taking in the breathtaking views of Sangla Valley and Kinnaur Valley along the way.
  • Afternoon: Pass through the stunning gateway to Kinnaur and make a brief stop at Chitkul, the last village before the China border.
  • Evening: Reach Sangla, check into your homestay, and freshen up. In the evening, gather around the bonfire for a warm dinner and an overnight stay in Sangla.

Day 3: Sangla to Tabo

  • Morning: After breakfast, begin your journey towards Tabo.
  • Mid-Morning: Enroute, cross the iconic Khab Bridge, where the Spiti and Satluj Rivers meet.
  • Afternoon: Enter the Spiti Valley, stopping at Gue Village to visit the Gue Monastery, home to a 500-year-old mummy, famously preserved with intact teeth.
  • Evening: Arrive in Tabo in the evening, enjoy dinner, and relax for the night.

Day 4: Tabo to Kaza

  • Morning: Start your day with a healthy breakfast and drive towards Dhankar Monastery, perched dramatically among rocky spurs, believed to be 1,000 years old.
  • Mid-Morning: Continue your journey to Kaza, the main town in the Spiti Valley. Upon arrival, explore the local Kaza market and check into your hotel or homestay.
  • Evening: Enjoy a delicious dinner and an overnight stay at Kaza.

Day 5: Kaza Sightseeing

  • Morning: Wake up early to enjoy a stunning sunrise over the Spiti Valley.
  • Day Excursion: Embark on a full-day sightseeing tour, visiting the Buddha Statue Village and the world’s highest motorable village, Komic.
    • Explore Hikkim, home to the Highest Post Office in the World, and send a postcard to your loved ones.
    • Visit the spectacular Key Gompa Monastery in the picturesque village of Langza.
    • Continue to the Kibber Village and the Chicham Bridge, the highest bridge in Asia.
  • Evening: Return to Kaza, enjoy dinner, and spend the night in this quaint town.

Day 6: Kaza to Kalpa

  • Morning: After a filling breakfast, begin your journey towards Kalpa, a beautiful village in Kinnaur Valley.
  • Mid-Morning: Travel along the Spiti River, then take a turn towards Powari to enter the Kinnaur Valley. Continue uphill to reach the serene village of Kalpa.
  • Afternoon: Upon arrival, check into your hotel and freshen up. If time permits, visit the local monastery and temple.
  • Evening: Enjoy dinner and a peaceful overnight stay in Kalpa, with panoramic views of the Kinnaur Kailash mountains.

Day 7: Kalpa to Shimla & Departure

  • Morning: After breakfast, visit the Suicide Point, a popular viewpoint offering incredible vistas of the surrounding valley.
  • Mid-Morning: Begin your drive back to Shimla.
  • Afternoon: Arrive in Shimla and take some time to relax at local cafes.
  • Evening: Board a Volvo bus from Shimla to Delhi, ending your trip with wonderful memories.
  • Overnight: Enjoy a comfortable overnight journey to Delhi, arriving the next morning.
